You may have seen metal parts in various forms, shapes and sizes. The different types you see out there undergo five processes. These are all explained in this page.

You may be wondering about the flexibility of metal parts. Come to think of it, there are many shapes formed out of them. And with these different shapes, several products are also being made. Well, the secret to the flexibility of such industrial products lie on five processes usually involved in their manufacture.

Chemical milling is one of the quickest, most versatile and most cost-effective among all processes for manufacturing metal components. In this subtractive process, photolithographic services may be employed. What makes this process quicker is the fact that some industries will usually maintain large inventories of materials that are available in various thicknesses.

The best description given to this process is “the ultimate process for metal tolerance and precision”. If chemical milling is a subtractive process, this one is an additive process. Usually, this process involves plating-up of nickel using the so-called photolithographic pattern. This may often involve dimensional stability and surface finish processes.

Laser cutting is said to produce excellent quality output no matter what type of metal is being used in the process. Some state-of-the-art equipment is often employed to give that tolerance, edge and quality in the product. This is specifically made for thinner metals though.

Also called Mylar imaging, this process is responsible for the production of rotary and linear encoders, glass rings and reticles. It can also result to the formation of calibration tools, resolution targets and die-cut Mylar parts.

Otherwise known as photo-plotting, this process is said to produce fine line imaging results. This can be divided into various services including those of laser plotted circuit board film, tooling, hole punching, film contact copies and measuring services. It also involves panelization conversions, cam conversions as well as data conversions. Plus it is said to be perfect for diazo drawings, glass drawings, paper drawings and scanning film.

As you have seen, there are many processes behind the production of metal parts. These five may be offered all at the same time by one company. In some other businesses, though, not all these services may be included. Therefore, if you are in need of metal components, make sure that you go to a company that can cater to your actual needs.
